भाषासु मुख्या मधुरा दिव्या गीर्वाणभारती। तत्रापि काव्यं मधुरं तस्मादपि सुभाषितम्॥

Sanskrit is prominent, sweet and divine amongst languages. Therefore, its literature is also mellifluous; and in that too, Subhashita is utmost mellifluous.

केयूरा न विभूषयन्ति पुरुषं हारा न चन्द्रोज्ज्वला:।
न स्नानं न विलेपनं न कुसुमं नालङ्कृता मूर्धजा:।
वाण्येका समलङ्करोति पुरुषं या संस्कृता धार्यते।
क्षीयन्ते खलु भूषणानि सततं वाग्भूषणं भूषणम्॥
[Bhartrihari’s Neeti shataka].

The real ornament for a man is neither the bracelets nor the necklaces with the brilliance of the moon, nor luxury baths nor anointments, nor flowers, and not even the splendid hair-dos. It’s his speech that adorns a man. Therefore Samskrita is one’s real embellishment. In contrast to, one’s graceful speech, other ornaments fade away. Hence Samskrita [graceful speech] is the only real embellishment of a person.

देवीं वाचमजनयन्त देवास्तां विश्वरूपाः पशवो वदन्ति |
सा नो मन्द्रेषमूर्जं दुहाना धेनुर्वागस्मानुप सुष्टुतैतु ||
ऋग्वेद. 08.100.11.

“The gods created the Goddess of Speech to help realize the ‘Absolute Truth’. Creatures in various names and forms resort to the same Goddess, to express their views. Let the Goddess of Speech who is like a wish yielding celestial cow be propitious to us and shower her blessings in the form of food, strength, fame and, prosperity.”
